Our love of blades began at an early age. Buckhorn blade’s lead blade-smith made his first knife when he was in the 4th grade. That knife was made from a damaged antique, two-man saw blade. Since then our materials, tools and techniques have been refined and honed. Today, you can work with our blades-smith to select the steel that best fits your specific need and taste. From there, our designers build outline sketches to scale of what your knife would look like. Once we have your input on the design, we begin preparing the material. Please remember, while our typical design-build time is 60 days, if you desire highly specialized materials, the lead-time could be as long as 120 days. With the design and materials in hand, our staff converts the outline sketch into a template on the steel. The handle material is prepared and shaped to fit the desired handle length and shape. The blade is ground to specification and hardened to meet the usage information gathered during design. With the steel prepared, the handle is attached and refined to its final shape. We can accommodate most custom requests. Ideas would include but not be limited to handle materials from old furniture, that favorite tree in the back yard, matched-color for that home-team or favorite hiking pack. Some of these customizations are not included in our base pricing. The cost will vary depending on your request.
