The poker is 47 long which places the beautiful basket twist handle at the perfect height for superior ergonomics as you lean on the firepit poker in between fire pit pokings. The working end of the poker is a modified coal hoe, the same that blacksmiths use in the shop tending the coal fire. The hoe allows you to push, pull and poke the fire with far more control than inferior pokers. The 47 length keeps you out of the fire as you adjust firewood, move coals around while cooking or lift covers off dutch ovens, all without cooking the hairs on your fingers or scorching your eyebrows again. I regularly burn the hair on my fingers and arms and occasionally my eyebrows. Not a good look but the basket handle is forge welded onto the shaft at 2600 degrees f and at those temps things can happen. The firepit poker is completely hand forged with my 2 1/2 lb hammer powered by armstrong. For the backyard cooking enthusiast the firepit poker is a must have.
