The head carved by hand in a piece of superbly grained crimson king maple wood and mounted on a superb twisted hazel shank. The stick is hyprid of cardigan stick. It is as such a one-off. The cardigan stick is a traditional welsh design this stick is based on that, but carved as a badger head, complete with fur detail. As can be seen from the picture above the stock can be used and is a very comfortable handle to hold the stick being held on the uncarved piece as shown. It will be fitted with a brass ferrule, once cut to the purchasers desired length. This stick is intended to be used as a normal stick. The handle is very comfortable to hold. The stick is approx 38 inches overall, and can be cut to required length upon request. I would like to stress that this head, unlike most others on etsy, is wood hand carved not cast resin. Each is therefore unique. I an unable to make two identical heads due to differences in wood grain and even things like my mood when carving. These are collectors sticks, each is unique and a piece of art. Hi steve received them this morning ive shot woodcock all my life mainly in the mountains of north wales my father was a woodcock man im a real lover of the bird i prefer the 2 first ones there abits more bulky and resemble almost exact size of a real woodcock head nothing wrong with the 3rd but just me i prefer the first 2 thanks. It is supplied with a brass ferrule unless one is not required, just ask. I have been making sticks for about five years now. I was taught by two of the best, imo, stick makers in the country. I make all the sticks myself, no plastic or resin, each is carved in solid wood. Usually i use lime but i sometimes make sticks in oak, ash, walnut and cedar of lebanon etc. All my sticks are made in my workshop here on the beautiful gower peninsular, all made within half a mile of the sea on the edge of the largest saltmarsh in europe. Hence my tendency to concentrate on birds we see on the marsh or in nearby woods. I do make other types of stick but bird sticks are my personal favourite. My stick have travelled the world, i supply a shop in boston usa as well as an outlet in scotland. I have a number of regular collectors and 90% or more of my sticks are made as commissions. When i get asked to make something unusual or new, i tend to make two so that in the event of an accident, and they happen often, i have another to proceed with. I do not have a website but you can see further examples of my work on facebook under wuzzlewood and on instagram. Why not follow me on instagram and see my new creations as i tend to post pictures of these regularly. Sometimes i can accommodate a rush job depending on my current workload. Thank you for showing an interest in my hobby. Sent from my iphone.
