Circa 1822 Sterling Silver and Mother of Pearl Knife and Fork Set in Leather Case (Lot Number 18)
English sterling silver and mother of pearl folding knife and fork set in leather case with velvet interior. Both knife and fork are fully functional and they unfold/fold smoothly. The knife and fork have four identical silver hallmarks: 1 profile of king george iv — indicating a manufacture date of between 1820 to 1830 2 lion — indicating english sterling silver. 3 crown with a z underneath — indicating made in sheffield england in 1822 4 il — indicating the makers name, which may be john littleworth (who used il not jl for some reason). The silver knife blade and fork are both in very good condition with minor scratches and patina. The mother of pearl cases/handles are also in very good condition and have slightly different natural colors with a nice luminescent look. The dark red leather case is in reasonable condition for its age, as is the purple velvet interior. Both, of course, show signs of wear and the leather exterior is separating in places. Knife and fork are identical in length: 3″ closed and 5-1/2″ open. This is a really exceptional set.
